On a recent episode of Jeopardy (December 26th), there was a category I enjoyed seeing.
It was titled "Your Elemental Hit Parade." The category, to be sure, did not concern either the TV show Your Hit Parade (1950-1959)--about which I have written regularly in this space--or the radio version of the program (1935-1953), which I have also written about; the category's clues concerned the periodic table. Yet the wording of the title was, undoubtedly, meant to call to mind (if only vaguely, perhaps, for some Jeopardy viewers) the Hit Parade broadcasts, decades ago.
Another Jeopardy category, in a mid-November episode (during the program's "Tournament of Champions"), was--to my surprise--about early television's DuMont Network (another subject I have addressed in this space). The name of the category was "Now Streaming on DuMont+"; after introducing the title, to the contestants and audience, host Ken Jennings said, "Sadly, streaming only in our imaginations."Here are two of the clues, from the November episode:
The first clue, of course, referred to Ralph Kramden. The question for the second clue, about Morey Amsterdam's program, was: Who was Jacqueline Susann?
